A successful local search is the first milestone. Giving other people access creates a different set of operating requirements. Work through these checks with a private test instance first.
Start with an access boundary
Keep the container port bound to loopback. Put the reverse proxy behind an authentication layer and test access to the entire application, including its API endpoints, with a signed-out browser. Do not treat an unlisted URL as a password.
Define the sharing model
Do not assume a single instance separates each visitor’s settings or stored data. Until isolation is verified, keep it private and use synthetic questions when demonstrating it. Do not upload customer files to a shared demo.
Decide how much you can spend
Set a provider-side usage budget where available. Review whether it is a hard cap or only an alert. Estimate total cost as server rental, backups, model usage, and your operating time. A cheap VPS does not cap model costs.
Practice recovery
Back up the persistent volume using a method compatible with its data store. A stopped-container backup avoids writes during the copy. Encrypt backups, restrict access, and restore into a separate test instance before relying on them.
Keep a rollback path
Record the image digest and configuration that work. Before updating, take a backup and read release changes. An older image may not read a migrated data store, so retain a matching data backup as well.
